Beginning Knitting, Continental Style – Sonya Johnson
DATE: Thursday, March 9
TIME: 1-3 PM
COST: $25, 2-5 persons
EXPERIENCE: Designed for complete beginners.
CLASS TYPE: Lecture, hands-on; As a beginner class, this does not include a specific project, but students will be advised on how to create one if they wish, at home.
CLASS DESCRIPTION: Students will learn how to do the LTCO (and knitted CO, if there’s time), how to knit and purl using the continental method, and the standard BO method
MATERIALS: worsted, aran or chunky weight yarn, in a solid, mid-value color, and a pair of needles in the size appropriate to the weight (8,9 or 10). Straights or circulars ok – student preference.

Learn To Fix Your Knitting Mistakes – Sonya Johnson
DATE: Sunday, March 12
TIME: 11-1PM.
COST: $25, 2-5 persons
EXPERIENCE: any; if you’ve been knitting, you’ve made mistakes!
CLASS TYPE: lecture, demonstration and hands-on
CLASS DESCRIPTION: Since there’s no such thing as knitting without making mistakes, it’s important to learn how to fix them, and not be intimidated by the process. In this class, we will learn how to identify mistakes, and how to fix them with confidence. We’ll also discuss the importance of learning to read your knitting so you’ll be able to prevent many mistake before they happen, and fix them earlier.
MATERIALS: 1. A swatch knit in a medium weight yarn (dk, worsted), preferably on straights. Sonya will email you a copy of the instructions for the swatch prior to the class, so when registering, please be sure to provide your email address. 2. A crochet hook, size D or E. 3. A set of DPNs of the same size as your knitting needles.

All About Yarn – Sonya Johnson

CLASS TYPE: lecture and presentation
CLASS DESCRIPTION: this class is for anyone who is confused by the numbers and descriptions on yarn ball bands, and/or wants to learn more about choosing the best yarn for their projects. We will go over yarn weights, and what those actually mean, how yarns are constructed, and the characteristics of each. We’ll also discuss fiber content and the characteristics of the most common animal, plant and synthetic fibers used to create yarn.
Materials: None

Knitted Bull’s Eye Beret – Joy Caldwell
DATE: March 18th
TIME: 1-4 p.m.
COST: $25, 3-6 persons
Class Type: Hands-on experience. Please, no children under the age of 13.
Class Description: You will learn how to do the purl stitch, how to knit in the round, how to increase, and how to change colors seamlessly with no jog. It is recommended that you do a gauge swatch before the class so you will have the right needles and can immediately begin the project.
Materials: 16″ US 6 circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge), US 6 DPNs, stitch marker, pompom maker (optional). Must purchase or own the book 60 More Quick Knits in Cascade 220 Sport. Recommended yarn for this project is Brown Sheep Nature Spun or any other sport weight yarn which will give you the gauge.

Announcing Our Shawl Club

Linda Geer is offering this club as an adventure for intermediate knitters who want to expand their repertoire of techniques, exercise the creative side of their brains, and have some fun knitting with other like-minded souls. Knowledge of basic stitches is required.

The patterns and materials for each shawl are listed below. We prefer that the yarn you use be purchased in our store (even if it wasn’t recently), and will extend a 10% discount for purchases for this class. (Please make your selection before coming to the first class.)

Class schedule is listed below, each on a Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.. We’ll start with refreshments and then offer suggestions to make your project experience and fun and successful one.

Introduces a crescent-shaped garter stitch section & knitted-on lacy border
   Cast on January 13th, 2nd session February 10th
Materials: 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn, 40″ size 6 circular needles,

March Shawl:  “Waiting for Rain” 

Introduces the use of short rows
Cast on March 10th, 2nd session April 7th
Materials: 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn, 40″ size 6 circular needles,  25 stitch markers

May Shawl:  “Manitoba” 

Introduces nupps and the incorporation of beads
Cast on May 5th, 2nd session June 2nd
Materials: 2 skeins of fingering or lace weight yarn, 40″ size 2 or 2.5 circular needles, or size needed to give the look you like
